Unbridled’s Song 2YO colt dazzles in Saratoga debut

Fire On Ice blasted to a 10 3/4-length victory in his career bow Aug. 27 at Saratoga, getting the six furlongs in a very quick 1:09.67 (VIDEO). The blowout win for the gray son of Unbridled’s Song earned an 88 Beyer Speed Figure.The juvenile was also tabbed a “TDN Rising Star”, one of more than a dozen horses by Unbridled’s Song to receive the designation.

Unbridled’s Song has now passed the $4 million mark in progeny earnings for the year, putting him in the top 12 of all North American stallions. His offspring have also accounted for 14 stakes wins, good for third place on the sire list.

Going to the front right out of the gate, Fire On Ice rolled through the half mile with a 3 1/2-length lead in :45.07 seconds. He continued to pour it on in the stretch, with David Cohen gearing him down in the final sixteenth of a mile and the victory well in hand.

Fire On Ice, who was bred in Kentucky by Taylor Made Stallions in partnership with Mike Abraham, was sold by the farm at the Fasig-Tipton summer yearling sale for $160,000. He is now owned by John Kimmel, who is also his trainer, and Eli Gindi.

This is the first winner, from two foals, out of the unraced mare Lost in the Storm. She is a half-sister to Squirtle Squirt, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) as well as the King’s Bishop S. (G1) at Saratoga.
