Troubleshooting becomes a millionaire in G1 Franklin-Simpson Stakes

Winning a Grade 1 race is a significant achievement for any racehorse, but for Not This Time’s Troubleshooting, his victory in the $2 million Franklin-Simpson S. (G1) at Kentucky Downs on Saturday, Sept. 6, was particularly memorable. Not only did the win make Troubleshooting a millionaire, but it also solidified his sire’s recent dominance, marking Not This Time’s eighth Grade 1 winner, and his lead-extending ninth graded stakes winner from his 3-year-old crop.

Making his graded stakes debut, Troubleshooting bumped at the break and settled in fifth position early in the 6 ½-furlong turf fixture. Shifted out five wide by jockey Tyler Gaffalione nearing the quarter pole, Troubleshooting collared the pacesetters in the lane. He surged clear late to defeat Golden Afternoon by a half-length, covering the distance in a brisk 1:14.33.

A Kentucky homebred for Donamire Farm, Troubleshooting is trained by Gregory Foley. The dark bay or brown colt is out of the stakes-winning Into Mischief mare Into Trouble.

“When you have a very good horse, you can be pretty confident,” Foley said. He fit for sure. It was just if you can get in there and get lucky. For $2 million, you know it’s going to be the best there is around right now, a couple of horses that came from Saratoga and that. But this horse has been running against good horses, too.”

With the lucrative win, Troubleshooting improved his overall record to 9-3-3-0, and the $1,154,900 winner’s share of the purse boosted his bankroll to $1,395,656. In addition to annexing the Franklin-Simpson, Troubleshooting also won the Dade Park Dash S. at Ellis Park in July.
