Taylor Made State-Bred Initiative Program
A program designed to support and incentivize breeders who choose to breed, foal, and register their horses within regional state-bred programs outside of Kentucky. This initiative rewards qualifying breeders with a waived (comped) stud fee upon meeting all program requirements.
How It Works:
- Breed an Approved Mare to any of the five Participating Stallions
- Foal the mare outside of Kentucky
- Submit Live Foal Report to The Jockey Club
- Provide proof of foal residency and/or State-Bred status
- Once all the above requirements are met, stud fee will be WAIVED.

Program Requirements
1. Designation & Contract Terms
- All mares are subject to approval.
- All participating mares must be designated as “State-Bred Initiative” at time of submission.
- If the mare:
- Is submitted as a State-Bred Initiative mare,
- Produces a live foal in a qualifying regional state, and
- The foal is registered as a regional state-bred with appropriate documentation submitted as proof,
Then the stud fee for the 2026 season will be waived (comped), subject to full compliance with all requirements outlined in the standard live foal stand and nurse agreement. No mare may be sold in utero to a Participating Stallion. Any such action will nullify the mare’s State-Bred Initiative qualification, and the full contracted stud fee will become due prior to the sale.
NOTE: All seasons will be contracted under a $5,000 LFSN agreement. Breeders will receive an invoice for the balance within 30 days of the estimated foaling date in 2027; however, the balance will be waived once all program requirements and breeder obligations are fulfilled.
2. Foaling & Registration Eligibility
Foals bred under the Taylor Made State-Bred Initiative plan must:
- Be registered as a state-bred in a qualifying state, eligible for that state’s specific state-bred incentives and races.
- Qualifying states and programs for foal registration include state programs in the United States and Canada.
- Not be a registered Kentucky-bred.
- Eligibility in the program is solely determined by the resulting foal’s state-bred status and not the nominated mare’s foaling state. KY-bred mares submitted to a participating stallion may qualify if they produce a foal outside of KY in a qualifying state-bred program.
3. Proof of Registration / Waiver of Stud Fee
To finalize the stud fee waiver, breeders must submit proof of foal residency with the applicable state-bred organization.
Applicable Proof of Registration/Residency may include, but not limited to:
- Live Foal Report with The Jockey Club
- Must be submitted within 30 days of foaling
- Copy of State Registration Inspection Report or State-Bred Foal Application
NOTE: Taylor Made Farm does not currently have space to accommodate seasonal mares for the State-Bred Initiative Program. Breeders are strongly encouraged to coordinate arrangements with a secondary boarding farm in advance to ensure availability. Assistance and recommendations are available upon request.
