Two-year-old filly Tacit Value reported home an impressive 6 ¾-length winner of a 5 ½-furlong event at Delaware Park on Thursday, becoming the first winner for Taylor Made Stallions’ multiple graded stakes winner Tacitus.
A Maryland homebred for Leaf Stable trained by Robert Leaf Jr., Tacit Value was bumped at the start but engaged for the lead between horses down the backstretch. She opened a clear advantage around the far turn under a hold and simply ran her rivals off their feet when asked in the lane to score as much the best.
Tacit Value is produced from the winning Bellamy Road mare Enterprise Value, a half-sister to stakes winner Skeleton Crew and to stakes-placed Missing Treasure. The chestnut filly hails from the family of stakes winner Carameaway, who banked $472,837.
Tacitus was among the top 3-year-olds of his generation. An earner of more than $4.2 million and a son of perennial leading sire Tapit out of Juddmonte’s Champion Older Female and prolific producer Close Hatches, Tacitus won or placed in 10 Graded stakes, including five Grade 1s and two Classic races.
At three, Tacitus captured the Wood Memorial (G2) just like his esteemed sire. In his sophomore debut, Tacitus won the Tampa Bay Derby (G2), setting a new stakes record of 1:41.90 for 1 1/16 miles, just .15 off the track record. Additionally, he was runner-up in both the Belmont S. (G1) and the Travers S. (G1) and finished a fast-closing third in the Kentucky Derby (G1). Winner of the 1 ¼-mile Suburban S. (G2) by a romping 8 ¾ lengths at four, Tacitus recorded six triple-digit Beyers in his spectacular racing career, including a lifetime best of 104 in the 2020 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).
The first 2-year-olds by Tacitus through the auction ring this year proved popular with buyers. Among them was a $500,000 colt—now named Silent Tactic—bought by Justin Casse, agent, out of the Thorostock consignment at the OBS Spring Sale. Tacitus, who is a full brother to graded stakes winners Batten Down and Scylla, is owned in partnership by Don Alberto, Juddmonte Farms, and Taylor Made Stallions.
