Roxton made an auspicious career debut on Tuesday, July 9, winning a maiden special weight at PARX, becoming the first winner for Taylor Made Stallions’ Rowayton.
Owned by Equivine Farm, Louis A. Bisso Jr., and Richard Vega Racing Stable, Roxton made short work of his seven rivals in the 4 ½-furlong test. Roxton broke alertly and forced the pace from along the inside before shaking loose from his foes at the head of the lane. He proved uncatchable in the stretch, sailing home a clear 3 ¾- length winner in :54.2. Trained by Richard Vega, Roxton was bred in Pennsylvania by Equivine Farm LLC, and is produced from the Henrythenavigator mare Queen of Races.
Rowayton, a multiple Grade 1-placed juvenile by Into Mischief, was a debut maiden special weight winner at Del Mar at two. He was runner-up in the 2018 Del Mar Futurity (G1), earning a 90 Beyer Speed Figure, and he also placed in that year’s American Pharoah S. (G1) to subsequent Champion 2-Year-Old Game Winner.
At three, Rowayton won an allowance race at Belmont Park in the near-track record time of 1:14.94 for 6 ½ furlongs, earning a career-best 97 Beyer. He placed in the Dwyer S. (G3) behind multiple Grade 1 winner Code of Honor and was just a neck short of winning the H. Allen Jerkens (G1) at Saratoga. Rowayton is by Champion Sire Into Mischief out of an Indian Charlie half-sister to two-time Canadian Champion Miss Mischief and descends from a family of champions, including Letruska and Proud Spell. Rowayton was a $320,000 acquisition by OXO Equine out of the 2017 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale.
