Giocoso led a 1-2-3 finish for Not This Time in Saturday’s $250,000 Texas Turf Classic at Lone Star Park, with Mesoro three-quarters of a length back of the winner and Gigante rounding out the top three for the Taylor Made stallion [WATCH RACE].
The top-3 sweep was just a precursor to what would be an even bigger day for Not This Time – less than two hours later at Churchill Downs, Magnitude would go on to win the $2 million Stephen Foster S. (G1).
In the 1 1/8-mile Texas Turf, the eventual top-three were in the last three spots for the first half of the race. Giocoso was the first to make his move on the leaders, getting within a length midway on the final turn. He shook clear of the field at the top of the stretch and dug in late to best Mesero in 1:47.07 on a firm turf.
Gicoso, owned by Rocker O Ranch LLC, has now won three stakes, having previously triumphed in the Secretariat S. (G2) and Commonwealth Turf (G3). His record now stands at 5-2-2 in 16 starts, with earnings of $1,273,473. The dark bay 4-year-old was bred in Kentucky by Breed First, LLC.
