Not This Time completed his clean sweep of the 3-year-old stakes Saturday at Gulfstream Park when nearly rolled to a 5 ¾-length win in the Holy Bull S. (G3).
About an hour earlier on the card Not This Time’s 3-year-old filly On Time Girl won the Forward Gal S. (G3). Both horses earned 20 points towards their potential starts in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1), respectively. With his two newest graded winners, Not This Time now has a lifetime total of 36 graded stakes winners and has three in the first month of 2026.
Nearly, who was making his first start around two turns, locked into a speed duel for the lead with Cannoneer right from the start, and that pair were side-by-side through a swift half-mile of :45.96. Cannoneer began to fade after six furlongs, but Nearly was still going strong and pulled away from the field entering the stretch. Kept to task the rest of the way, Nearly increased his margin to the wire and finished the 1 1/16-miles in 1:44.52.
“We wanted to get to the first turn forwardly, not necessarily on the lead but in a good stalking position,” said trainer Todd Pletcher. “He kind of broke inward a little bit and recovered. Those two went to the first turn and they were clicking right along. It looked like he got into a good rhythm. At that point I was a little worried about who might be closing from behind because they went pretty fast together early, but it looked like he turned for home and had a lot of horse under him. It was an impressive race.”
Nearly has won three of four starts and earned $249,900 for owner Centennial Farms, who procured the colt for $350,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September sale. Nearly was bred in Florida by Wind Hill Farm.
Pletcher indicated that Nearly would likely be pointed to the March 28 Florida Derby (G1) as his final prep before the Run for the Roses.
