Grano de oro, a 4-year-old son of Mshawish, earned his first graded/group victory on April 22 in Peru in the Clasico Miguel A. Checa Eguiguren (G3) at Hipodromo De Monterrico.

The chestnut colt had already placed in a pair of group races at the same track this year, and won six straight races, including three stakes in 2021.

Grano de Oro’s latest win came at 1,900 meters (approximately 1 3/16 miles) on the turf. After stalking the pace most of the way, he hit his best stride in the final furlong, drawing away to win by nearly three lengths on the wire.

The winner is owned by Stud Agustin Gabriel and was bred in Kentucky by Mshawish Syndicate & Lannister Holdings. He is out of the top-class mare Tap Dance, winner of the Bonnie Miss S. (G2) and also the dam of stakes winner Mail.

Tap Dance’s siblings include Carter H. (G1) winner Swagger Jack, Grand Prayer, dam of Grade 1 winner Malibu Prayer and Grade 2 winner Valid, and Lyrical Ghost, dam of Grade 2 winner Silverside.

Mshawish, who stands for $5,000 S&N, was the leading Second-Crop sire by graded stakes winners in 2021.
