Not This Time’s brilliant colt Magnitude put his name in the history books Saturday in Meydan with a front-running victory in the $12 million Dubai World Cup (G1).
Magnitude is the 12th lifetime Grade 1 winner for Not This Time. With Magnitude’s big payday, Not This Time rockets to the top of the 2026 General Sire list. Magnitude, who won the Razorback H. (G3) in his only prior start this year, is one of six graded winners this year by his sire.
Breaking from the inside post in the field of nine, Magnitude went right to the lead, with 2025 Horse of the Year Forever Young his closest pursuer. Magnitude was racing well within himself as the field made its way down the backstretch, with Forever Young just off his flank. Magnitude continued to hold his spot around the final turn, spurting a couple of lengths clear at the top of the stretch. Digging in the rest of the way, Magnitude held sway, with Forever Young not able to get any closer than the one length at the wire.
“What an incredible win,” said trainer Steve Asmussen, who did not make the trip over, when reached by phone Saturday. “We just wanted to let him to run his race from point A to point B. The horse is running with a lot of confidence, and that gave us confidence. It unfolded just how we wanted it to.
“It’s so fitting that this team has won the Dubai World Cup,” the conditioner continued. “Ron Winchell, [racing manager] David Fiske, [assistant trainer] Scott Blasi. Our exercise rider Carlos [Rosas] also rode Curlin, so it’s a great win for the whole team.”
Magnitude is owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds, LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Ron Stolich. Magnitude’s record now stands at 7-2-1 in 13 starts, with earnings of $8,544,365.
