Knicks Go filly debuts with sharp win over Del Mar turf

Soaring Angel, a half-sister to Grade 1-winning millionaire Johannes, looked very much at home on the turf as well in her career debut Saturday at Del Mar as the 2-year-old daughter of Knicks Go rallied to victory in the one-mile race.

The dark bay filly is the fourth winner for her First-Crop sire, with three of the four coming at seven furlongs or more. The fourth, Ewing, has arguably been the most impressive. In his 5 ½-furlong unveiling July 5 at Saratoga, the colt romped by a dozen lengths and is being pointed towards the Saratoga Special (G2) on Aug. 2.

Soaring Angel, in post 7, got away well and was second going into the first turn. She tracked Olivia for six furlongs before being roused for the lead at the top of the stretch. Going strongly down the lane, Soaring Angel comfortably held off the late charge of Got the Ring to win by nearly a length.

The winner is owned by her breeder Cuyathy, LLC. Soaring Angel is also a half-sister to two-time stakes winner Sea Dancer.
