Ewing turned in a spectacular debut in the opening race of the July 5th card at Saratoga, rolling to a 12-length victory in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds.
The gray/roan colt is the third First-Crop winner for Knicks Go, tying him for the second spot on the Freshman sire list.
Ewing, who was a $585,000 buy at this year’s OBS Spring 2-year-old sale in April, was sent off the odds-on favorite on Saturday afternoon. After hesitating just a bit at the start, he quickly went to the lead. He was pressed by She’s On a Roll through the turn, when Ewing then asserted himself and pulled away with ease. He widened the margin with every stride and coasted under the wire in 1:04.42 on a fast track.
Ewing is owned by D J Stable LLC, West Point Thoroughbreds & Kenneth Frierich, who were his buyers at OBS. He was bred in Kentucky by John Gardiner.
