Not This Time got his first of two graded stakes winners on Friday’s Kentucky Oaks card when On Time Girl prevailed by 1 ½-lengths in the $700,000 Eight Belles S.
With wins in the Forward Gal S. (G3) and Fern Creek S. included in her five career victories, 3-year-old On Time Girl is now 5-1-1 in seven starts and has earned $842,455 for owner/breeder Albaugh Family Stables LLC.
Shortening back up to seven furlongs for the Eight Belles, On Time Girl was sixth and in the four path as the field made its way out of the chute. She continued four-wide around the turn while steadily closing in on the leaders. She took over for good from River Wind inside the eighth pole and drew clear with authority to stop the timer in 1:22.16 on a fast track.
“We asked her to stretch out in distance and she gave us an honest effort (when third in the Davona Dale (G2)),” trainer Brad Cox said. “I think one turn is what she’s best at right now. She ran a big race today.”
Winning jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. added, “We got a beautiful trip. We were a little wide around the turn, but she really responded when I asked for her best. She is a nice filly.”
Pedigree Notes from the TDN:
On Time Girl is one of 39 graded winners for superstar sire Not This Time.
