On Time Girl kicks off graded stakes double for Not This Time

On Time Girl draws away late to win the Forward Gal S. (G3) - Lauren King

Not This Time got his first of two graded winners on the Gulfstream Park Saturday card when On Time Girl scored a three-length victory in the Forward Gal S. (G3).

The win came two races prior to Not This Time’s 3-year-old colt Nearly romped to victory in the Holy Bull S. (G3). The wins marked the first graded victory for both sophomores.

On Time Girl had been off since a convincing win in the $225,000 Fern Creek S. Nov. 29 at Churchill Downs. In Saturday’s seven-furlong race, she was between horses down the backstretch before getting pinched back to fifth entering the turn. She was surrounded by horses around the bend, then had no choice but to go wide for clear running in upper stretch. Once in the open, the bay filly responded willingly and drew off late for a clear-cut win.

“I broke good,” said winning rider Irad Ortiz, Jr. “I felt like Mythical had speed so I stuck right there beside her. The outside horse showed some speed so I took my time. I got out of there at the half-mile pole. I was in a bad spot and I wasn’t comfortable there, but the filly responded like a champion. She kept trying and she held me there. I was able to hold my ground, hold my position and after that I straightened out and she did the rest.”

Trainer Brad Cox said that the one-mile Davona Dale S. (G2) in late February would by On Time Girl’s next target.

Owned and bred by Albaugh Family Stables, LLC, On Time Girl is 4-1-0 in five starts and has earned $405,735. She is the second foal out of Girl Daddy, who won the Pocahontas S. (G3).
