Not This Time’s 3-year-old colt Six Speed is now a perfect three-for-three after rolling to a four-length victory in Friday’s 2000 Guineas at Meydan, UAE.
The dark bay colt, who won the Guineas Trial three weeks ago, earned the winner’s share of 20 points in the Road to the Kentucky Derby challenge series, which is used to determine the 20 starters in the Run for the Roses.
Six Speed came out of the gate vying for the lead in Friday’s one-mile race, was headed by briefly by Nanguederaz (URU), then reasserted himself to take back the lead in the first three furlongs. He appeared to be going along well within himself around the bend and then into the stretch. Called upon for more with a furlong to race, Six Speed spurted clear and came home to win comfortably in 1:38.02.
Owned by Brunetti Dugan Stables, Black Type Thoroughbreds, Steve Adkisson and Swinbank Stables, Six Speed has earned $197,690 in his three wins. Six Speed was bred in Kentucky by KatieRich Farms.
“One of the biggest lures for us is that this will be the fifth Not This Time that we have purchased,” Black Type Thorougbreds’ Jake Ballis said of acquiring part-interest in the colt a week before his latest start. “Sacred Wish won a Grade I for us. Cy Fair won the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. Believe in Magic just turned three and she is stakes-placed. Flat Out Time is graded stakes-placed on the turf and dirt. So far, Not This Time has been very good to us.”
Next up for Six Speed is likely the UAE Derby (G2) on March 28.
