Tempus Volat ran down Friendly Confines in the stretch to win the $100,000 Let It Ride S. at Del Mar’s opening day of Breeders’ Cup weekend.
The three-quarter length victory was the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Not This Time colt, giving the Taylor Made stallion 23 stakes winners in 2025. Not This Time will have eight starters in the Breeders’ Cup this Friday and Saturday.
Tempus Volat broke sharply in the one-mile turf contest and briefly battled for the lead before settling in along the fence just behind Friendly Confines, who led the field through a half-mile of :46.38. Tempus Volat held his position around the turn, then swung out into the two path after turning for home. He got past the pacesetter inside the final furlong and finished in 1:35.31 on the firm turf.
With the win, Tempus Volat is 2-1-2 in six starts and has earned $142,058 for Sondereker Racing LLC. The dark bay colt was bred by Three Chimneys Farm and is a half-brother to graded stakes winner Delahaye.
