Final Score leads trio of Sunday stakes winners for Not This Time

Not This Time had one of the most remarkable three-day runs for a sire in recent memory, tallying a total of five stakes winners and another four graded stakes-placed runners over the first weekend of October.

On Sunday, Not This Time accounted for three stakes winners: Final Score in the Bourbon S. (G2), a Keeneland qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1); Schwarzenegger prevailed in the $300,000 Indian Summer S., also at Keeneland; and lastly Cy Fair taking Woodbine’s Algonquin S. All three winners are 2-year-olds and all three stakes were on the turf.

Final Score, who was a sharp winner of Saratoga’s With Anticipation S. (G3) on Aug. 28, used the same front-running tactics to win Sunday’s 1 1/16-mile race. The dark bay colt fended off several challengers at different points to prevail by 1 ¼-lengths.

“He went a little faster than I wanted, but he got the job done. He deserves a lot of credit,” said jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. “He was a little aggressive going into the first turn but on the backside, he switched off really nice. After that, I just bided my time turning for home. Then when we were in the straight, I asked him to go, and he gave me a good turn of foot.”

Final Score, who cost $600,000 as a yearling, is owned by Mike Repole and has earned $397,550. He was bred in Kentucky by BG Stables.

About an hour earlier on the Keeneland card, Schwarzenegger went gate-to-wire as well to win the 5 ½-furlong Indian Summer S. by a half-length over Obliteration. Schwarzenegger was making his stakes debut after finishing second by a neck in his Aug. 29 unveiling at Saratoga.

Owned by Mrs. John Magnier, Mountmellick Farm, Brook T. Smith and Resolution Road Stables, Schwarzenegger has earned $199,205. The winner was bred by Frankfort Park Farm in Kentucky and sold for $950,000 at the 2024 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling sale.

At Woodbine, Cy Fair came from last of six to win the five-furlong Algonquin by 3 ¼-lengths. The victory marked the first stakes win for Cy Fair, who was beaten just a neck in the Bolton Landing S. Aug. 17 at Saratoga. The bay filly is now 2-1-0 in three starts and has earned $160,205 for owners Reagan Swinbank, Medallion Racing and Mark Stanton. The winner was bred in Kentucky by Marc Keller.
