Winfinity takes $125,000 Miss Disco S. for first black type win

Not This Time got his 11th stakes winner of the year Saturday at Colonial Downs when Winfinity tallied a 2 ¾-length win in the $125,000 Miss Disco S.

The gray/roan 3-year-old filly was making her first appearance in a stake this year, as well as her first overall on the main track. Facing just four foes in the seven-furlong affair, Winfinity was last with about six lengths to make up going into the turn. She gained ground while three-wide on the bend, then with a determined run down the lane, struck the front with a sixteenth to go and pulling away for the clear-cut victory.

Trained by John Ortiz for Dream Big Racing LLC, Winfinity is 2-1-0 in six starts and has earned $196,480.

“Winfinity loves this track,” said owner John Wade of Dream Big Racing. “She won her first stakes last year then got injured at another track and came back here and did great. We were excited to see her today. She did what she always does. She stays in there, then she closes and makes it exciting and makes my heart pound a little extra more. [Jockey] Ben [Curtis] was perfect. We asked him to keep her close, not bring her up to the front, and don’t worry about the speed. As soon as she came around the turn, he let her loose and gave her the perfect ride, a clear path the whole way.”

Winfinity was bred in Virginia by Ann Mudge Backer/Smitten Farm.
