Not This Time got his second stakes winner of the day on Saturday when Magnitude rolled to a 9 1/4-length victory in the $250,000 Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows.
Magnitude was making his first appearance at the races since February of 2024, when he won the Risen Star S. (G2) by 9 ¾-lengths. The bay colt did not disappoint in his much-anticipated return. He came out of the gate on the lead and maintained a one-length advantage over Mister Omaha and Mickswagger through the first half-mile.
Going along very comfortably around the final turn, Magnitude started to edge away, then with a tap on the shoulder by jockey Ben Curtis at the top of the stretch, Magnitude left the field far behind to be hand-ridden to the wire to stop the timer in 1:42.26.
The winning time earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 105.
Magnitude has now won four of eight starts for owner Winchell Thoroughbred LLC, with earnings of $596,165. Winchell purchased Magnitude for $450,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September sale.
Bred in Kentucky by Ron Stolich, Magnitude is out of Rockadelic, whose dam Octave was a two-time Grade 1 winner of over $1.6 million.
Red-hot Not This Time has had three stakes winners over the Independence Day weekend, with Troubleshooting win the Dade Park Dash S. on July 4 and Dana’s Beauty winning the Indiana General Assembly S. on July 5.
