*%(red caps)Winner: Lord Shanakill by Speightstown%* _From the Racing Post_ *Freshman sire Speightstown (Gone West) was represented by his first winner Thursday at York in England. The American-bred* *%(red)Lord Shanakill%*, *a $110,000 KEESEP yearling, was sent off at 13-2 odds in a six-furlong event over turf labeled good-to-firm. Despite the heavy favorite Awinnersgame (Ire) (Polish Precedent) (Ire) looming a threat, Lord Shanakill powered away in the final furlong and won by a 2 3/4-length margin. The colt was produced by the unraced Theatrical (Ire) mare Green Room, a half-sister to GISW Spanish Fern and to the dam of GI Santa Anita H. winner Heatseeker (Ire). Lord Shanakill was bred by Vimal Khosla, Gillian Khosla, et al, and is owned by Mark Gittins. His record is 2-1-0-1, for earnings of 8,605 pounds. The experience gained by LORD SHANAKILL when he was narrowly beaten on his debut at Thirsk over 5f, stood him in good stead here. The extra yardage suited him ideally and he won in grand style, powering to the line throughout the final furlong. The Coventry Stakes was mentioned as a likely target. It is anyone's guess at this stage whether he will prove good enough to hold his own at that level, but there was plenty to like about this display.*
