Sharp Humor is a multiple stakes winner at two, who is already a graded stakes winner and grade one performer at three. His racing career to date suggests that he is very much in the mold of his sire, a fast horse, who could carry his speed.
Sharp Humor is from the stallion producing Forty Niner branch of the Mr. Prospector male line, and is by Forty Niner’s most outstanding stallion son, Distorted Humor. With his just four Northern Hemisphere crops – all sired at fees of between $10,000 – $12,500 – Distorted Humor has proved himself a truly proponent sire. Those first four crops have already produced 33 stakes winners, headed by dual classic winning Champion Funny Cide; other grade one winners Flower Alley, Commentator, Awesome Humor and Fourty Niners Son; and graded scorers Sharp Humor, Sensibly Chic, Humorous Lady, Go Rockin’ Robin and Original Spin.
Sharp Humor’s dam, Bellona, is out of a half-sister to classic winning English miler and classic sire, Shadeed, and he is linebred to the outstanding tap-root mare, Continue through both his own female line and that of his grandsire, Forty Niner. Sharp Humor also has Mr. Prospector 3×4 and Northern Dancer 4×5. Inbreeding to Mr. Prospector has proved particularly potent for Distorted Humor, and is a pattern which is also found in his grade one winners Flower Alley, Commentator and Fourty Niners Son. The duplication of two of the genetic giants of the age should also increase Sharp Humor’s chances of emulating his sire as a prepotent stallion.
One of the more powerful nicks with Distorted Humor has been with mares from the Seattle Slew line with the likes of Any Given Saturday and Funny Cide good examples of this. Obviously given teh intensity of his own pedigree mares by Seattle Slew, his sons and grandsons would suit Sharp Humor admirably. Distorted Humor has also done well with mares by the In Reality sire line with Rinky Dink (Southern Appeal), Got the Last Laugh (Cee’s Tizzy) and Don Dandy (Relaunch) examples of this.
