The Storm Cat-Fappiano cross has produced several top runners in recent years and the Forestry-Fappiano nick has shown especially potent results. From his first six mares bred carrying Fappiano, Forest Danger’s sire Forestry has sired two stakes winners (33%), including G3 winner Congressionalhonor.

Fappiano’s damsire Dr. Fager appears to be the key to the success of the cross. During his first two years at stud Forestry was bred to a total of 14 mares influenced by Dr. Fager. From those mates he has sired a total of five stakes winners, or 38% from mares bred.

Forestry has had excellent success with Mr. Prospector in general, as a third of his stakes horses are out of Mr. Prospector-influenced mares. He as also worked especially well with Forty Niner, siring a stakes winner and an additional stakes horse out of daughters of that stallion. Other relevant sources of Forty Niner include Distorted Humor, End Sweep and Coronado’s Quest.

Daughters of Coronado’s Quest are particularly desirable for Forest Danger as they also provide the opportunity to linebreed to female family founded by Bold Irish. Her female line is responsible for the likes of the legendary Ruffian, her brother, the good sire Icecapade (the grandsire of Forest Danger’s dam), Irish Castle, Private Terms and Coronado’s Quest.

Daughters of Saratoga Six also allow for the pursuit of this linebreeding as he is out of mare by Irish Castle. Forestry has had considerable success with Saratoga Six mares, siring grade one winner Diplomat Lady and stakes winner Ever Elusive with daughters of the Alydar stallion. There are at least eight other stakes winners by Storm Cat-line stallions out of Saratoga Six daughters including the additional G1 winners Catinca and Madcap Escapade. Mares by other Alydar sons Alysheba, Easy Goer and Stirke the Gold have also produced stakes winners with Storm Cat-line stallions.

Forest Danger’s second dam is a great granddaughter of the great Fred Hooper stallion Olympia and a return of that ancestor may prove beneficial. In a Thoroughbred Times article, pedigree expert Rommy Faversham expounded on the success Mr. Hooper achieved by inbreeding to Olympia. Mr. Faversham also noted that ”...over the past three decades, a remarkable number of stallions bearing Olympia’s blood have sired some of their best offspring when bred to a mare also conveying at least one Olympia strain.” This opens the door for trying Forest Danger with mares by Dynaformer as his second dam is by Olympia.

Based on Forestry’s phenomenal success with Cox’s Ridge, mares carrying that influence should also go well with Forest Danger During his first four years at stud Forestry bred a total of seven mares carrying Cox’s Ridge. Out of those mares he has sired two stakes winners and two additional stakes placed runners. That translates to 57% stakes horses from Cox’s Ridge-influenced mares bred.
