Unbridled Ocean scored for the second time in his last three starts with a courageous neck victory Dec. 17 at Gulfstream Park. The 3-year-old son of Unbridled's Song broke his maiden at Belmont Park in September then was second at the same track in October.
Unbridled's Song is represented by 27 stakes horses in 2011, including four multiple stakes winners. The Taylor Made stallion's runners have amassed $5.5 million this year.
Unbridled Ocean had an eventful trip in the one mile contest. Tucked down on the rail on the backstretch, the dark bay colt was forced to steady behind the leader, Light Sabre. Still stuck in the same spot coming down the homestretch, he finally shook loose inside the final sixteenth to close with a rush for the victory.
Bred in Kentucky by SyBon Racing Stable LLC & Racehorse Management LLC, Unbridled Ocean was consigned and sold by Taylor Made at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale, bringing a winning bid of $875,000 from Besilu Stable, his current owner.
Unbridled Ocean is a half-brother to West Ocean, a four-time stakes winner of $355,840. Their dam, Ocean Drive, won eight stakes, including four Grade 3 events, and earned more than $800,000. Her siblings include $2.2 million earner Sun King, who won graded races at four different tracks; the Grade 1 winning 2-year-old Traitor; and three-time stakes winner Beavers Nose.
