Old Fashioned is a brilliant and breathtakingly good looking graded stakes winner, who ranks as one of the most talented sons of Unbridled’s Song. He is out of multiple graded stakes winning and multiple grade one placed Collect Call, herself a very close relative to Mitterand, a grade one winner who is dam of the Champion siring stallion, French Deputy.

Old Fashioned is free of Northern Dancer, and Unbridled’s Song has done particularly well with mares from that sire line. Particularly outstanding has been the cross with Storm Cat, and Old Fashioned looks a natural to cross with mares by that sire, and sons such as Forestry, Tale of the Cat, Forest Wildcat, and Hennessy. It is worth noting that Hennessy sired the brilliant Henny Hughes out of a Meadowlake mare and we particularly like mares by Hennessy’s son Johannesburg for Old Fashioned.

In a similar vein, as Old Fashioned’s dam is closely related to a major son of Deputy Minister, mares from that line will have considerable appeal, with good sources including Dehere, Silver Deputy, Salt Lake Touch Gold, Awesome Again, Deputy Commander, Forest Camp, Service Stripe, and to give inbreeding to Old Fashioned’s family, French Deputy. Other branches of the Northern Dancer line that have produced superior stakes winners for Unbridled’s Song and his sons include Danzig (including through Chief’s Crown and Polish Numbers, with Belong to Me looking another good candidate), Dixieland Band (sire of Dixie Union) and Sadler’s Wells (sire of El Prado and grandsire of Medaglia d’Oro), Nijinsky II, and Lyphard.
