Not This Time could have a star in the making if In Due Time’s scintillating performance in a Feb. 4 allowance race is any indication.

The 3-year-old colt rolled to a 5 ¾-length victory in a hand ride from Paco Lopez. He came from just off the pace, circling horses at the top of the stretch, before drawing off at will to get the mile in 1:35.97.

His Beyer Speed Figure of 92 is the co-fastest at a mile by any 3-year-old in the country this year. His first two starts had both come at sprint distances.

Trainer Kelly Breen is looking for a stakes race next for the chestnut colt.

“We couldn’t have asked for it to set up better, Paco rode a good race and we have a nice horse,” Breen said after the win. “I don’t know if he’s a Fountain of Youth, Florida Derby [horse] or what we are going to do with him. All options are open.”

In Due Time is owned by Edge Racing and is now 2-1-0 in three starts, with earnings of $73,380. He was bred by the Gary & Mary West Stables Inc.

Not This Time was last year’s #1 ranked Second-Crop Sire and has gotten off to a terrific start in 2022, with four stakes horses and a pair of stakes winners to date.
