California Chrome recorded his first timed workout at Meydan Racecourse on Jan. 30, going four furlongs in :48 2/5 and galloped out to six furlongs in 1:13, much to the delight of assistant trainer Alan Sherman.

"(California Chrome) worked like a beast this morning," Sherman said through a post on the Horse of the Year’s Facebook page.

Sherman is overseeing California Chrome’s training for his father, Art. The 5-year-old horse arrived in Dubai on Jan. 21 and is being pointed to the $10 million Dubai World Cup (G1) in late March, with a possible local prep race before that. California Chrome finished second in the 2015 World Cup.
